Stricter safety regulations for CNG and LPG conversion kits on Monday, aiming to reduce risks of leaks and accidents in vehicles.
The new rules mandate third-party certification for all kits, ensuring compliance with updated emission and pressure standards. Mechanics installing or servicing the kits must also undergo specialized training, with certification from the National Automotive Authority by year-end.
"These measures will enhance public trust in alternative fuel solutions," said a spokesperson, noting a 15% rise in CNG/LPG vehicle conversions nationwide in 2024. Non-compliant kits will face fines, with random inspections to be stepped up across major cities.
Industry leaders welcomed the move, stating it would curb the use of uncertified, low-quality kits that have caused several fire incidents in recent months.
