In Peru, several types of vehicles are suitable for conversion to natural gas, including light-duty vehicles, heavy-duty vehicles, and motorcycle taxis. The specific situations are as follows:
Light-duty Vehicles: Light-duty gasoline vehicles are one of the main types suitable for conversion. The Peruvian government's Natural Gas Vehicle Savings Program (Programa Ahorro GNV) provides interest-free loans of up to 4,300 soles to cover 100% of the conversion costs for owners of light-duty gasoline vehicles, aiming to convert 70,000 light-duty gasoline vehicles into natural gas vehicles.
Heavy-duty Vehicles: Buses and trucks are important parts of heavy-duty vehicles suitable for natural gas conversion. The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) of Peru promotes the conversion of heavy-duty vehicles from diesel to natural gas through the FISE Natural Gas Vehicle Savings Program. For the installation of a new Euro V or higher technology CNG engine, the program provides financing of up to 200,000 soles, and for engine conversion (overhaul) or the installation of dual-fuel equipment (diesel and CNG), it provides financing of up to 50,000 soles.
Motorcycle Taxis: Motorcycle taxis with gasoline and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) combustion systems are also suitable for conversion to natural gas. The Natural Gas Vehicle Savings Program offers a discount voucher of 2,000 soles in provinces and finances the remaining 500 soles for the conversion of motorcycle taxis to compressed natural gas (CNG) systems, with an interest-free repayment period of up to 3 years.
