Converting a petrol car to a CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) fuel alternative involves the following steps:
Check Vehicle Eligibility: Most sedans and light trucks are suitable for conversion, but it depends on the vehicle model and year. Generally, vehicles within 10 years old with modern systems are more suitable, while high-performance, turbocharged, or older engines may need special consideration.
Apply to the Relevant Department: The vehicle owner should first apply to the local vehicle management office. After approval, fill in the vehicle modification application form, and then go to the designated CNG vehicle modification enterprise for modification.
Select a Qualified Modification Factory: Choose a modification factory with CNG modification qualifications. The modification qualification is reviewed by the Special Equipment Section of the local Technical Supervision Bureau and applied for by the provincial technical supervision department. After review, inspection, and acceptance, the modification license is issued by the local competent department.
Choose the Gas Equipment: Select high-quality gas equipment, including gas cylinders, pressure regulators, gas injection devices, etc. The gas cylinder should have good quality and performance, and the installation position should be safe and easy to inspect and maintain.
Install the CNG System
Single-Point Modification: For single-point modification, a mixer is added to the vehicle. After the natural gas is released from the pressure regulator, it is mixed with air and enters the engine combustion chamber through the intake manifold, which belongs to out-of-cylinder mixing.
Multi-Point Modification: For multi-point modification, nozzles are installed by drilling holes in each intake manifold. The natural gas is directly injected into the engine combustion chamber under the control of a computer, which can more accurately control the injection and improve the combustion efficiency.
Debugging and Testing: After the installation is complete, adjust the parameters such as the mixing ratio of gas and air and the ignition timing to ensure that the vehicle can run normally and has good performance. Then, conduct a safety inspection to check whether the gas system is sealed and the pressure is normal, as well as the overall safety of the vehicle.
Go through the Filing Procedures: After passing the inspection, go to the relevant department for filing and approval to ensure that the modification is legal and compliant. After the filing is completed, the vehicle can be legally driven on the road.
